A Chat with Colleen Kavanagh of ZEGO Foods on FDA Temporary Labeling Guidelines

In May 2020 during and because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which oversees U.S. food regulations, announced temporary flexibility policy regarding certain labeling requirements for foods for humans during COVID-19.

As a food manufacturer that makes superfood-based products, Colleen Kavanagh found of ZEGO Foods does testing and set quality standards for 400+ agricultural pesticides and toxins in the ingredients so that their products support the long-term health of our family and planet.

The facility is also free from the top 13 allergens — peanut, tree nuts, milk (dairy), soy, egg, fish, shellfish, mollusks, sesame, lupin, sulfites, mustard, wheat — and no corn or corn derivatives are used on equipment, packaging or processing aids.

In this episode, Colleen and I chatted about the FDA regulation and what it means to food production and safety for individuals with dietary needs.

Colleen has a life-long passion for empowering individual and societal well-being through better nutrition through government, non-profit and for-profit sectors.

Her current venture is her company ZEGO, a platform brand providing clean, wholesome and delicious packaged foods that meet the health needs of the 21st Century, where nearly 1/3 of all people in the U.S. are food sensitive (allergies or intolerances), even more are diabetic or pre-diabetic and still others choose vegan or paleo lifestyles to be healthier. ZEGO is plant-based and provides food safety data on allergens, gluten, glyphosate, over 400 agricultural chemicals, and heavy metals directly to our customers though our T-CODE batch level tracking system. We are leading the industry to show that "clean" is measurable and every day, we as food companies, can work toward a cleaner tomorrow.

Part of every ZEGO purchase goes to support, A Better Course (formerly Campaign for Better Nutrition), to improve nutrition for low-income children at home and in public settings, like schools, through advocacy and direct service programs.

In her personal life, she loves gathering friends together and sharing a delicious and nutritious meal that will nourish them body and soul. She loves paddle boarding, sprinting, pilates and the SF Giants.
